PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – K.J. Choi has won The Players Championship, defeating David Toms with a par on the first playoff hole to cap a dramatic final day at TPC Sawgrass.

Toms (70) drove into a divot on the final hole of regulation, then sank a 20-foot birdie putt to force a playoff. On the first playoff hole – at the par-3 17th – Toms three-putted from 22 feet while Choi two-putted from the back of the green.

It was the eighth career title for Choi, who last won in 2008 (Sony Open). Choi, who closed with 70 to finish at 12-under 276, pocketed $1.71 million for the victory.

Graeme McDowell, who led by one after the third round, shot 79 and slipped into a tie for 33rd.

Paul Goydos, who was runner-up to Sergio Garcia in 2008, finished solo third.
